Meet Colin, My New Baby

So! Welcome Colin Thomas Kennedy to the world.

My first child was born this past Tuesday, December 28th, at home at 6:38 a.m. He weighed 7 lbs. 12 ou., and arrived 12 days early. Labor was eight hours long. Mom, Dad, and baby are all healthy, happy, and in blissful love.

The one thing that I didn't accurately anticipate? Nursing is sincerely hard work. Hard work as in a complete preoccupation for many hours of every day and night.

  10. Emily, CONGRATULATIONS! He is a sweetie.

Oh Lord, breastfeeding is hard work. But once we finally got the hang of it, I enjoyed those moments together. Also, I got really good at reading article pdfs on my iphone with one hand.

Best wishes as you figure it all out. You'll do great!

  11. Holy crap! I had no idea you were expecting. Flannery and I also had a baby; Romy was born on 12/19. Her mom also finds nursing to be a complete chore, but she's adjusting rapidly. We'd just be happy if the baby didn't have such horrible separation anxiety. She needs to be held 24/7. I've learned to sleep (sort of) sitting up with a baby on my chest.

Congratulations to you and CK. Parenthood is really amazing. And awful. And mostly awfully amazing.

  13. Hi! This is Samantha from the presentation today. I found your blog--seems like having a baby makes you not update. TOTALLY WEIRD. Are you on facebook?

    A few things!

    A. My flickr account is "dickensanddovegrey." Although not as interesting as a blog, it is more frequently updated.
    B. Please tell me mephit has to do with D&D. If it doesn't, I'll slowly back away and act like I didn't make that comment.
    C. I look forward to hearing more about your project :)
